The Covid19 pandemic, urban resilience and governance
UGoveRN member Ebru Kurt Özman (University of Amsterdam) published an article with the title “Harnessing Covid-19 Experiences in Pandemic Regions for a Tentative Framework of Urban Resilience” together with Aysun Aygün Oğur (Pamukkale University) and Zeynep Özdemir (Amasya University) in the Regional Studies Association’s Regions eZine.
The article examines the practices and approaches taken by different countries with a high number of cases and distinctive responses to the Covid-19 outbreak within six World Health Organization (WHO) regions from the perspective of urban resilience. Furthermore, the authors explore how governance needs to be designed to manage pandemics.
The findings indicate the necessity of adopting a holistic approach that encompasses various dimensions of resilience. As a result, this article proposes a preliminary conceptual framework that incorporates key factors, such as a strategy map, to provide a comprehensive perspective for guiding future pandemic recovery efforts.
