Patrick Le Galès (SciencesPO, Paris) visited Amsterdam to deliver an insightful keynote talk on the fundamentals of governance research. Referring to his latest article on ‘metropolitan governance as organized anarchy’, Professor Le Gales talked about forms of decentralization and the importance of local politics while explaining shifting relations between states and cities. This event was combined with an early career activity where Professor Paavo Monkkonen (UCLA, Los Angeles) and Professor Patrick Le Galès provided valuable advice and suggestions to UGoveRN’s early career scholars. They shared their insights on publishing strategies, research focus, and networking opportunities, offering practical guidance to support the professional development of emerging researchers in our network.
