Urban Regeneration in Italy: Markets, Governance and Planning Tools

This event has expired

A public talk by Prof. Ezio Micelli (Università Iuav di Venezia): Recent economic and social transformations have profoundly reshaped Italy’s territorial organization. Historically known for its “100 cities,” the country has witnessed a significant concentration in large metropolitan areas, as evidenced by property market values. A strategy to achieve greater territorial balance necessitates new regeneration policies to make smaller and mid-sized cities more attractive. However, investments in development must take new conditions into account. It’s not just about promoting high-value-added activities and the most promising economic industries. Equally important is ensuring a quality of life that meets the expectations of mobile populations and younger generations. Work on real estate public assets and innovative planning choices—such as experimenting with social innovation, co-production processes, and fostering a proximity economy—becomes crucial, as innovative projects in mobility and public spaces are equally important.
