In this talk, Nufar Avni will share preliminary results from a study conducted in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, a liberal city facing increasing pressures from a right-wing central government. She will present findings from a novel survey concerning residents’ expectations from the municipality against this backdrop and share insights from a municipal attempt to practice urban autonomy over a contested issue (weekend public transportation). The policy implications will be discussed with reference to other cities facing similar tensions.
